MWC 2012: Editor's Notes and Video from Day One

What I Liked

We will start with good news, or to be more precise with products I would like to try myself. No matter how surprising it may seem, but I would like to begin from Panasonic, which returns to the European market. Its protected Eluga smartphone can be considered a success. I liked the design, its screen and the fact that you can safely drop the handset into water without deadly consequences. If you are looking for an Android device, but don't feel like paying money to Samsung or HTC Eluga is a good choice.

The model is so unusual that I would like to go to the seaside with it to enjoy summer fun in the sand without any fear. Then I really enjoyed Sony Xperia S. The P model looks attractive for those looking for the best Sony camera phone now. Interestingly, Sony employees can choose what model to use and many go for P. I think the body material is the key motivation, which is accompanied here with a gorgeous screen (so far it is the best in this respect at the exhibition). Anyway I prefer a plastic S, which boasts a better camera and perfect design.
Another good impression was produced by the design of new HTC offerings. Read about features in a separate article, but I would like to emphasize the unified style similar to that of Sony. There are no weird elements at the back. You see a larger one is a flagship, while smaller models occupy a more modest position. Perforation looks fine and body materials are nice to touch. It applies to HTC One S more. Artem and I managed to shoot several videos together and we will continue tomorrow. Usually we have different opinions, but Eluga united us so much that company officials had to try hard for us to part with the sample.

Downside

I will start with the complaint that we had no true new models. All intriguing devices were highlighted online in their original appearance with characteristics into the bargain. We attend an event and know what we will see. As always manufacturers forget everything but megapixels, large screens and performance. Even in pavillions we are informed about the battery life, but nothing changes. Modern flagships can work only for a day and sometimes can run out of power closer to lunchtime. Huge screens are great, but what is the purpose? I like that Sony emphasizes the quality instead of size. Nevertheless, Samsung and LG are trying to overtake each other without any meaningful purpose in sight. As we know you can end up with Samsung Note, which is very popular and sells well. We should know how to use such screen though. Games and drawing can be used with purpose then. LG, Samsung and Sony constantly mention that we can use Android smartphones in connection with TVs. Have you ever used such a bundle and why should you bother anyway? Despite all Sony efforts there is one issue in the shape of cables hated by people even if you add a nice dock for a permanent location of the model near the TV. There are two solutions here: to insert phone cradles in TVs or develop a wireless connection, which is possible. So far I like what Sony does by joining a smartphone with a TV to get a lite computer for gaming, browsing and social networks. I am currently writing about the Sony dock, where I will describe how the phone operates together with the accessory. I also do not like the design of new LG solutions and Konka.
